Thoughts for the new year!

2024 will bring Wildwood Music Therapy’s third birthday! It is hard to believe it will have been three years. At the end of 2021 we just had a handful of piano lesson students, and now we’ve had the opportunity to connect with so many groups in our community.

As a small business owner in Lexington, KY it’s hard to miss the number of other small businesses that are closing, changing their operations, or adjusting their business in some way. Rather than spark fear, the transparency I've seen from these businesses has given me increased confidence to face change and challenges with an open mind.

There is nothing wrong with admitting that something isn’t working for you - in fact, as a helping professional, it’s critical that myself and our other service providers are honest about what we need and set up for success so that our clients receive the best possible services. The ability to make adjustments and to adapt to new situations are critical skills for music therapists; they have come in handy for business ownership as well.

While a lot of things are going well, I am looking forward to making and facing changes in the new year, and continuing to learn and grow as a business owner and manager so that I can best serve Wildwood, and in turn, Wildwood can best serve our community. Thank you for all your support and Happy New Year!
